Saturday morning in Essex, Vermont, “Big Beautiful Life” hosted the first-ever Run, Walk, and Roll in honor of Addi Carroll. “It’s an amazing thing but also bittersweet that it’s our first anniversary of her passing,” said Ian Carroll, Addi’s father. Addi was a staple in the Essex community and died a year ago due to ongoing medical issues from a disease doctors couldn’t diagnose. In her honor, her parents created “Big Beautiful Life”, an organization dedicated to helping other children in medical crisis. More than 200 participants went to Saturday’s event and Addi’s family said it blew their expectations out of the water. “I think we’re up close to 250 registrants, which is amazing, just wonderful turnout, we’re really excited,” said Ian Carroll. Funds from the event will go to children who find themselves in similar situations to Addi’s. “We are raising funds for children in medical crisis to provide them joy kits for their hospital rooms, we hope to give them a little extra comfort and joy,” said Tammy Carroll, Addi’s mother. The Essex Fire Department was also in attendance to honor one of their own.”We adopted Addi and made her an honorary member of the department. She was given one of our old portable radios so she could hear our calls and she would frequently come by the firehouse and make sure our fire trucks were clean,” said Charles Cole, Essex FD chief. Those in attendance say Saturday’s event shows just how strong the Essex community iswhen they all come together. “The community spirit is just a wonderful thing and we’re just so happy to be a part of it,” said Doug Fisher, a sponsor of the event. The Carrolls’ plan to hold the event again next year and hope to make it even bigger and better.
