Talk about an interesting vacation story.A family on a camping trip in Utah recently ended up helping extinguish a wildfire near their campsite. “All of a sudden it was a lot of smoke,” Mike Newbry told KSL News.Sarah Newbry said the family first noticed “a lot of commotion and a lot of smoke from the parking lot.”As the grass fire spread quickly throughout the Willard Bay camping area, the Newbrys immediately jumped in to help. “I hustled in and saw everybody just kind of running from the beach grabbing water and taking it up to the parking lot,” Mike Newbry said. Sarah Newbry said she grabbed her son and nephews, handed them pails used to build sandcastles and had them run to get water.The Newbrys said they weren’t the only ones to take action. “I was just moved by it,” Sarah Newbry said. “Nobody was asking questions, they were just jumping in to help.” It was one of several fires reported in that region of Utah over the Fourth of July weekend, which officials blamed on wind and thunderstorms. Eventually, fire agencies across the state raised concerns about fireworks sparking more fires.The Newbrys said the person who started the fire near their campsite was likely tossing out a cigarette butt. “All it takes is just one little spark or one little hot coal from your grill and suddenly you’ve got a big disaster,” Mike Newbry said.
