Police identify woman who died in Town of Theresa crash

TOWN OF THERESA, New York (WWNY) – Police have identified the woman who passed away in a crash in the Town of Theresa Friday.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says Dawn Sharpstene, 63, of Theresa was traveling south on County Route 21 when she drifted off the left shoulder, striking a tree. The crash happened around 3:30 p.m.

A passerby discovered the crash and notified authorities. Police say there is no indication any other vehicles were involved.

Officials say Sharpstene was located in the vehicle deceased upon first responders’ arrival.

The road had been closed off while first responders were on scene Friday, but it has since been reopened.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
