The IRONMAN Lake Placid welcomes several athletes from across the world to compete in a race over 140 miles long. Not many of them can say they are 76 years old. Robert Tebo, from Tupper Lake, N.Y. is taking part in his 7th IRONMAN Lake Placid this weekend as one of the oldest competitors in the field. “This was the first one I did,” Tebo said when asked about how many total IRONMAN races he’s done. “This is a great venue, and it’s exciting place to be.”Tebo has a rich history in long-distance running, which all began when he was 62 years old. His first big race was the Tupper Lake Tinman, part of a collection of 22 half-IRONMANs he has completed. He’s also finished 10 full IRONMANs and 4 Olympic championship runs. Tebo says Lake Placid’s race last time taking part in a full IRONMAN. One of the reasons why he chose the village as his last stop, was his appreciation for the community-wide support for every athlete on race day. “It’s a tough course, with a lot of downhill and a lot of uphill,” Tebo said. “But when you are doing the run and you are coming down Main Street or Mirror Lake Drive or the Olympic Oval all the people, no matter how fast or slow you’re going are cheering you on.”Pro racers have already finished the course on both the men’s and women’s side as Tebo looks to finish his 11th and final IRONMAN.
