Fire destroys vacant home

GOUVERNEUR, New York (WWNY) – A vacant home in the town of Gouverneur caught fire Tuesday morning.

The call came in around 2 a.m. at a two-story house on Stammer Road

The Gouverneur Fire Department said the house was up in flames when volunteers arrived.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Gouverneur, Antwerp, and Oxbow fire departments responded to the scene.

Volunteers battled the blaze for five hours and were back in the afternoon putting out smoldering portions of the home.
