The Oklahoma City Zoo said the birth of the male clouded leopard kitten is the first birth of 2023 for the species.
The Oklahoma City Zoo recently welcomed an adorable new member to its animal family with the birth of a clouded leopard kitten. The zoo’s female clouded leopard, Rukai, gave birth to a male kitten on July 18 at its Cat Forest habitat. The birth came after a 90-day gestation period.Caretakers reported that the kitten is healthy and doing everything a newborn should be doing, including eating, sleeping and growing. The Oklahoma City Zoo is a participant in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan for clouded leopards. Zoo officials said the birth is a significant one and the first of 2023 for clouded leopards, which are considered vulnerable species. As the clouded leopard kitten continues to grow, zoo officials said he will make his way to another facility to be another AZA-accredited facility to be “another important ambassador for his species and hopefully have little cloudies of his own one day.”
