His aura is something that could still be seen surrounding George Brendler Field Thursday, with several fans happy to see the game that Garrow also once loved. “To know Frankie was to like Frankie,” said former Chazy school board member Joe Trombley. “When you were with him, you were smiling … just a fun guy to be around and he’s missed.”Some intense action was definitely not missing from this year’s opening round. The play kicked off with Beekmantown High School matching up with Canton High School. The Golden Bears would tie it back up, but Mosley would give his squad the lead on a free kick, leading to a 2-1 final in favor of the Eagles. Chazy’s Ryan Demers scored his first varsity goal with less than a minute in the first, but a deflection off of a Chazy player’s hand led to the score being tied back up at 1-1 in the second half. The match was then decided in PKs, with a couple of clutch saves from Plattsburgh goalie Nick Clookey sealing the deal down the stretch to give his squad the victory. Plattsburgh and Beekmantown will match up in the Frankie Garrow championship match on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m. Chazy will face Canton in the consolation game that same day at 5 p.m.
