A couple of hungry bears in search of a tasty treat in Alaska are gaining a lot of attention nationwide after they raided the back of a Krispy Kreme delivery van that was parked outside an express store on a U.S. military base. Last week, Candice Sargeant, the general manager at the Krispy Kreme store in Muldoon, Alaska, got an unexpected call from one of her delivery drivers who was reporting that a bear and her cub were inside the back of his delivery van. “I didn’t believe it,” Sargeant told KTUU, adding “I was like really astonished.”The delivery driver had been making a regular delivery to a store on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) in Anchorage when he came out to find the bears inside the van. When the driver left the van unattended, he hadn’t realized that the two bears were regulars outside of the store. And earlier that day, they had been on the prowl for something to eat. “She was happy because she’d been looking for garbage,” Shelly Deano, the manager at the store in the base, said of the mama bear.Hearing noises coming from inside of the vehicle, it didn’t take Deano long to figure out what was going on inside of the van.”I said he’s in the van and then the little cub followed and went inside the van and they just started eating the doughnuts,” Deano said.Upon discovering the animals, Deano snapped a few photos of the bears raiding boxes of doughnuts. “You could hear them breaking open the packages. We were trying to beat on the van but they just kept eating all the donuts,” she said. “They ate 20 packages of the donut holes and I believe six packages of the three-pack chocolate doughnuts.”Eventually, after staff at the military base let off sirens, the bears left the van and took off into the woods. The team at the Krispy Kreme store has learned a lesson from the incident. “We’ll definitely be learning to slide up our ramp (and) close the doors to ensure that bears don’t get back in there again,” Sargeant said.

The team at the Krispy Kreme store has learned a lesson from the incident.

“We’ll definitely be learning to slide up our ramp (and) close the doors to ensure that bears don’t get back in there again,” Sargeant said.
