Vermont State Police: Brookfield shooting suspect to be arraigned on Friday
A spokesperson for the agency provided new information about the case says that victims knew each other
The Connecticut man accused of shooting two people, killing one man and seriously injuring another last May in Brookfield, has been returned to Vermont and will face a judge Friday afternoon.Devon Dennis, 43, of Hartford, Connecticut, was brought back to Vermont on Thursday by uniformed troopers from the Vermont State Police Field Force Division. He’s scheduled to be arraigned on the charges at 12:30 p.m. in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Chelsea.He is charged with one count of second-degree murder connected to the May 12 fatal shooting of Juan Sierra, 27, of Springfield, Massachusetts, and another count of attempted second-degree murder for the shooting of Miguel Fuentes, 29, also of Springfield, Massachusetts.On May 19, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Dennis on a charge of second-degree murder of Sierra and attempted second-degree murder for the shooting of Fuentes.Investigators determined that Dennis had traveled to Jamaica on May 13 from Bradley International Airport in Connecticut. They said he flew back to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Saturday morning, July 22nd, where he was met and arrested by members of Homeland Security Investigations, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New York City Police Dept., the U.S. Marshals Service and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Vermont State Police confirmed in May that the deadly shooting that left one person dead and another injured in Brookfield was targeted.State police said that the victims knew each other and did not shoot at each other. Both Sierra and Fuentes men had previously been arrested and charged in July 2019 for fentanyl trafficking and transportation.
