A baby boy, born lifeless, was reunited with some of the EMS workers who helped save his life. On Aug. 4, the Kindelbergers were ready for a peaceful at-home birth for their second child.Samantha Kindelberger was surrounded in love, with her husband, Roy, doulas, and midwives by her side. After six hours of labor, their son, Judah, was born. To their shock, he was born lifeless. “There was a placental abruption which caused him to not receive the oxygen through the umbilical cord. It was a minimum of 15 minutes he didn’t have oxygen,” Roy Kindelberger said. The doulas and midwives sprang into action, they performed CPR and eventually got Judah’s heartbeat back. When EMS got to their home, they worked to keep the heartbeat and did everything possible to keep Judah alive.”We roll in as an army, they mentioned their doulas and midwives complimented our care and how collectively we worked as a team,” paramedic supervisor Jonathan Jobe said. EMS took the family to Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where the family found out Judah had to be flown to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.”Children’s Hospital was saying it didn’t look good. They were saying he could have broken collar bones, liver damage, kidney damage, heart damage,” Roy Kindelberger said. Nine days later, Judah was released from the hospital. All of his tests came back normal, which the family says is a blessing and a miracle.”To turn around and see your lifeless baby after you give birth is horrifying. And then to see the rise and fall in his chest was just incredible and such a miracle,” Samantha Kindelberger said.A little more than a month after Judah was born, the EMS team reunited with the baby boy they helped save. “He was not doing well at all. To see how big he’s gotten and his big blue eyes, it’s a wonderful experience,” Jobe said.”It takes a village, they say, and these people are in our village now,” Samantha Kindelberger said.First responders have to deal with horrible situations every day, but today’s meeting was a silver lining. “This warms us all. This is a wonderful experience and we are very fortunate this family would actually reach out to reconnect with us and spread their joy with us,” Jobe said.
