Haunted hayride success for Watertown company

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Add Watertown Garden Center to the list of haunted hayrides this Halloween season.

The Garden Center, on Route 11 just south of Watertown, is seeing success in its first year of offering haunted hayrides.

“It’s driving more people here. It’s definably helping our pumpkin sales and it’s helping people who never knew we were here before, where we’re at,” said Justin Chesbrough, owner of the Garden Center.

Each Friday and Saturday, people can take a 15 minute ride through the woods. Two Saturdays ago, more than 800 people came to experience the hayride.

“People were really impressed with the amount of work that got done,” said Cody Baker, who organizes the hayrides.

There’s a lot to see.

With more than 30 people dressed in costumes, something is almost guaranteed to catch you off-guard.

“We spook ‘em real good. We get some good screams and get in their faces,” said Lydia Corsen, one of the actors.

And there are reasons to take the ride more than once.

“It’s relatively similar week to week, but there are subtle differences that people notice when they come back,” Chesbrough said.

Chesbrough says he plans to continue the hayrides in coming years, and add to the show.
