Trunk-or-treat helps to combat cavities

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – The Halloween season is a dentist’s nightmare, but a trunk-or-treat event Friday afternoon is helping combat cavities.

It was held at the JB Wise Parking Lot from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. and put on for the Jefferson County Hygiene Collective.

About 20 organizations took part and dozens of people showed up.

Many who came to trick-or-treat also donated things like tooth brushes, soap and toilet paper.

“It’s such a big issue that we can’t target it alone. We started the collective so we can make a collective effort to target hygiene poverty for the local community,” said Jaira Jenkins of the Jefferson County Hygiene Collective.

Items can still be dropped off at any Kinney Drugs if you want to help.

People who need the items will be able to get them anonymously from a pick up box.
