Court papers: Ogdensburg woman allegedly fired shotgun as warning

OGDENSBURG, New York (WWNY) – According to court documents, an Ogdensburg woman allegedly fired a shotgun on a city street as a warning but ended up hitting a man in the back.

The papers say 39-year-old Nikeia Paige discharged a 20-gauge shotgun on Saturday at 9:50 p.m. in the 400 block of Deviller Street.

City police said 24-year-old Trent Menard was struck in the back and suffered minor injuries.

Paige was charged with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The court papers include a statement from a witness who said he is Paige’s boyfriend.

In that statement by Kenny Woods to police, he says Paige and two men exchanged words at the intersection of Deviller and Greene streets as she held a shotgun.

“Nikeia then fired the shotgun into the air. The gun was pointed in their direction but it looked like the gun was pointed well above their heads. Nikeia then walked into the apartment and I followed her in. I told her that she shouldn’t have done that. Nikeia stated that it was just

a warning shot. We then waited for police to arrive,” Woods told police.

Paige was arraigned in Ogdensburg City Court and released.
