WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Vehicles have started lining up to get bottled water now that Watertown’s reservoirs are running dry.
State and federal agencies and Fort Drum officials were working Thursday on ways to get the water into the city.
Two dozen pallets from the state arrived shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot next to the Watertown Municipal Arena.
Crews are handing out boxes containing 24 cans of water.
Each vehicle is limited to one box. The water is free.
Officials say more pallets are on their way.
Beginning at 7 p.m., people can bring their own jug for bulk drinking and non-drinking water at the fairgrounds, Watertown High School and Northland Plaza.
The distribution sites will be open until 10 p.m. Thursday and will re-open at 7 a.m. on Friday.
Water is being delivered to vulnerable populations. If you need water and are unable to access it, officials urge you to call 911.
