Fort Drum soldiers grateful for chance to help Watertown

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Water continued to be handed out at three Watertown locations on Friday with help from Fort Drum soldiers.

On Thursday, when the city’s water emergency started, the Army brought in water from wells in 2,000-gallon tanks called “hippos.”

Soldiers were grateful for the chance to help on Thursday and Friday.

“They’re able to put their training into action immediately here, in the local community, which is great. Hopefully, people get to come out here and see the soldiers in action, talk to them. They’re really great at what they do and it’s a great partnership,” said Col. Matt Braman, deputy commander of the 10th Mountain Division.

There are changes in where you can get water this weekend and what water you can get. The only location that’ll be open is the fairgrounds and it won’t have bottled water anymore. You must bring your own container.
