Spring water business sees historic spike in customers

TOWN OF WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Business is booming at a place that sells spring water just outside the Watertown city limits.

People have been filling up water jugs at The Water Place on Route 12 in the town of Watertown for decades.

But, owner Ron London says Thursday was the busiest day of business for him in 23 years. That’s because of the water emergency in the city of Watertown.

“We’ve had busy days, but yesterday it was out of control actually. People still got to get their weekly water. They fill up 5, 10, 15 jugs, whatever they got for their weekly use,” he said.

People bring their own containers to The Water Place for fill-ups. They get 5 minutes’ worth of flowing water for 25 cents.

London says business slowed down a bit after the city started distributing bottled water. However, people are still lining up to stock up for the weekend.
