Lake Placid has welcomed a new addition to its hospitality scene with the grand opening of the Cambria Hotel. Developed by Choice Hotels International, this three-story, 185-room hotel located on Saranac Avenue is poised to become a new landmark in the Adirondack region, offering stunning views of the Adirondacks and Paradox Bay.Mark Shalala, senior VP of development of upscale brands at Choice Hotels International, expressed his confidence in the location choice.”We really pride ourselves in locating and delivering the Cambria brand in these great destinations where people want to be,” Shalala said. Lake Placid, known for its rich Olympic history and breathtaking natural beauty, was an ideal choice for this flagship hotel. While the development faced logistical challenges in the midst of the Adirondack mountains and delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Shalala believes the Cambria Hotel will bring excitement and phenomenal amenities to the village.Darcy Rowe Norfolk, communications director at the Olympic Regional Development Authority, shared the significance of this new addition.”Previously, it was Quality Inn, and it’s been kind of out of the bed base for a while, so getting those rooms back into the mix is very good for us,” she said. ORDA works closely with local hotels to accommodate travelers attending various events in Lake Placid, and the availability of Cambria Hotel rooms will be a valuable asset for future events. The opening of the Cambria Hotel comes at a time when Lake Placid anticipates hosting events like the North American Cup and other activities. “Having ready and available hotel rooms to support those events is a much-needed asset for us,” Rowe Norfolk said. Cambria Hotel is now accepting reservations and is prepared to welcome guests throughout the year. According to Shalala, Lake Placid’s popularity ensures a robust tourist season year-round. “There’s not much of an off-season. You’ve got a robust season in the summer with people coming to the Adirondacks to explore summer activities, and, of course, winter is the busy season with skiing at Whiteface and all of the winter outdoor activities,” Shalala said. This marks the third Cambria Hotel in New York State, but it’s the first to open in the North Country. Furthermore, Cambria has already set its sights on further expansion within New York State, with plans to add new hotels in Times Square and Niagara Falls.
