Thanksgiving is still over a week away, but preparations for the holiday season are already underway as crews cut down the tree that will usher in the season of giving on the Church Street Marketplace in downtown Burlington.Soon enough, the heart of the Queen City will be filled with lights up and down Church Street, with a tree at the top of the marketplace for all to see and enjoy.This year’s tree stands at 40 feet tall and about 21 feet across. It was generously donated to the city by the Escorpizo family of Williston.Live: Watch the tree arrive on Church Street The family told NBC5 that it wasn’t an easy decision to part ways with the magnificent tree.”We’ve actually always wanted to decorate it, but because it’s so big we’ve never done it,” said Brittany Escorpizo. “ not only now can we see it lit up and decorated, but a lot of other people will too, and I think that’s really special.”With a fresh new patch in their lawn where the tree once stood, the Escorpizo’s said they’re excited to plant something new in the Spring, and even more excited to be attending the tree lighting as a family for the very first time.”To know that there’s a piece of your home there and to be part of that festivity all season long is pretty great,” said Reuben Escorpizo.The tree will make its way to the Church Street Marketplace Wednesday morning before the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 24.
