Retailers at Champlain Centre Mall in Plattsburgh prepare for influx of shoppers on Black Friday
The Champlain Centre Mall opened its doors early on Black Friday, as shoppers from across the North Country came to snag some early deals from big retailers like JCPenney, Kohl’s and Target.This year marks the first Black Friday for the new Ross Dress for Less clothing store, which opened at the mall earlier this fall.While Black Friday has become a smaller-scale event for many retailers due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the rapid expansion of online shopping, mall officials are still expecting a high turnout of shoppers.”People are eager to come out, not just for the things that they’re buying, but also for each other,” Lisa Getty, the general manager of the Champlain Centre Mall, said. “We’re ready to be a community again.”Some stores, including JCPenney and Kohl’s, opened as early as 5 a.m., with JCPenney staying open until 10 p.m. and Kohl’s staying open until midnight.
