CROGHAN, New York (WWNY) – In Croghan, it was a day of good tidings, food trucks, and at Good Ol’ Wishy’s, all manner of tasty treats.
“The weather might be chilly but the hearts are warm. It’s a great place to come in and warm up with some hot cocoa but also have a maple milkshake. We specialize in those at Good Ol’ Wishy’s with the Schweitzer’s maple syrup,” said Owner Charlotte Schweitzer.
Maple milkshakes are just one of many community favorites at the forefront of the village’s Maple and Mistletoe Event. Throughout the day, a number of local artisans and vendors set up shop in businesses across Croghan.
“It’s just an opportunity for the community to get together and support those local small businesses and be part of the pride that’s part of Croghan,” said Calvin Campany, a Maple and Mistletoe Planning Committee member.
“I’d rather support them, honestly, than some of the big ones out there. Helps the local town more than the big guys, ya know?” said Croghan resident Logan Levakis.
Also for sale are Christmas trees. Terry Opela has made a point to purchase one from the Lions Club every year.
“We want to support the Lions. The money all goes back to the community, too,” said Terry Opela.
Those looking for holiday spirits in the more literal sense looked no further than Good Old Spokes Bike Shop, where Tug Hill Estates was set up offering free tastings.
Folks had the chance to try cranberry vodka, an all-new spiced rum and apple pie moonshine.
“It’s not your typical moonshine that’s going to burn you. It’s really smooth. Tastes just like your grandma’s homemade apple pie,” said Michael Stanford, a Tug Hill Estates Sales Associate.
Maple and Mistletoe was the culmination of months of planning and just about every local business had its hand in making successful.
