Two athletes from our region have been nominated to represent the United States in an upcoming international competition.Sadie Martin of Vermontville, NY and Wolfgang Lux of Swanton, Vermont were among seven athletes nominated to compete in the upcoming 2024 Young Olympic Winter Games as members of the U.S. luge team.Martin was chosen for women’s doubles while Lux was chosen for men’s doubles, according to the announcement.The event is scheduled to take place on Jan. 19-Feb. 1 at the Alpensia Sliding Center in Gangwon, South Korea. The center was also the site of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.The field is limited to 15 sleds in both doubles’ disciplines and 20 sleds for the singles disciplines. Athletes eligible to compete must have been born between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2009. While the nominees were chosen by USA Luge after qualifying during International Luge Federation sanctioned events, the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee will officially name the team that will compete in January. Training for the event will begin on January 15, 2024.
