Of those, about 3.1 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.About 920,000 shelter animals are euthanized yearly, the ASPCA said, a decrease from the estimated 2.6 million cats and dogs euthanized in shelters in 2011.”This decline can be partially explained by an increase in the percentage of animals adopted and an increase in the number of stray animals successfully returned to their owners,” the ASPCA said.The Adams County shelter said it would begin taking in animals from other Pennsylvania shelters this week to help alleviate some of their stress. “Right now, we are going to enjoy this accomplishment!
