A group of senior women from Hingham, Massachusetts, who range in age from just under 70 to their early 90s, have posed for a charity calendar, raising funds for their senior living community.The group of calendar girls have taken on a new title, “The Lovely Ladies of Linden Ponds.” The women, who were once librarians, nurses, IBM researchers — and even dated celebrities like Frank Sinatra, are now making headlines for a different reason.”I’m getting ready to go on a Valentine’s date,” Carole Walt, also known as Miss February, said, embracing her new role. “I’ve been in showbiz all my life,” Nalora Steele, Miss October, said. “If you’re asked to do something you do it, right?” The calendar features the women in various activities such as gardening, quilting, and even hanging out in the library after hours. Denise Janey, Miss August, shared that the reactions have been mixed. “Another person’s reaction was: ‘Really Mom?'” These grandmothers and great-grandmothers, now residing in Hingham — which is outside of Boston — have bared it all for a good cause. The calendar is raising money for the resident care fund at their senior living community. “Our way of helping our resident neighbors stay in the community,” said Denise Janey.Suzanne Monk, Miss September, shared a humorous anecdote, “One fellow said to me: ‘Wow you read that tall ship’s book?'” The women have not only embraced their roles but are also enjoying the attention it brings.While Hollywood hasn’t come calling yet, the calendar has already been a success. They’ve sold 700 calendars so far, proving that growing old is beautiful and not something to fear.
