Vermont’s largest utility company is retaining additional crews to help with anticipated outages ahead of this Friday night’s impending winter storm.Green Mountain Power said it more than doubled its field force with external crews to supplement its own staff before Tuesday night’s storm and will keep those extra members on through this weekend to help with any damage from high winds on Friday night.Although the latest round of winter weather isn’t expected to be quite as strong as Tuesday night’s storm, wind gusts could still reach up to 60 mph in downslope areas of Vermont, the Adirondacks and the White Mountains, according to the latest from NBC5’s First Warning Weather team.GMP said it finished restoring power to more than 42,000 customers in Vermont since Tuesday’s storm.The utility is urging Vermonters to take all possible precautions as the next storm looks to impact many of the same customers it just helped earlier this week. Some of those safety reminders include keeping an eye on the latest forecast conditions as well as making sure devices are charged in case of an outage. GMP also recommends having fresh batteries, non-perishable foods and water on hand.
