Vermont State Police have identified a suspect in a homicide that took place in 2019 in Barton.For the past four years, police have been investigating the death of 37-year-old Richard Poginy of Glover, who died on Nov. 9 from complications of blunt impact head injuries, according to the coroner’s report. He was found after a low-speed car crash in Barton a week earlier, but officials said his injuries were inconsistent with a vehicle accident.On Wednesday, state police announced that their investigation determined that 29-year-0ld Brownswell Cedano of Hartford, Connecticut physically assaulted and repeatedly struck Poginy outside a home in Barton.The injuries sustained during that encounter ultimately lead to Poginy’s death, police determined.State police received an arrest warrant for Cedano this week on a charge of second degree murder. He is currently an inmate at Federal Correctional Institution Schuylkill in Minersville, Pennsylvania, after he was sentenced in November 2022 to a seven-year term following a conviction for distributing drugs in Rutland, according to officials.It is still unclear as to when Cedano will return to Vermont to face the murder charge. His extradition will be coordinated by the Orleans County State’s Attorney’s Office with help from federal agents.
