“I’ve never seen something like that before,” skiers react to Monday’s glimpse at totality
TO 2888777. WELL, TODAY, SKIERS ACROSS OUR REGION TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE PERFECT CONDITIONS TO HIT THE SLOPES FOR A GREAT VIEW OF THE ECLIPSE. YEAH, NBC5’S NOAH CIERZAN SPENT THE DAY IN STOWE WHERE PARKING LOTS WERE PACKED EARLY THIS MORNING FOR THIS BIG DAY. MONDAY WAS TECHNICALLY THE FIRST DAY FOR HIGH SCHOOL SPRING SPORTS TEAMS TO PLAY THEIR FIRST OFFICIAL GAMES, BUT THE ECLIPSE SIDELINE THINGS. SO WE CAME OUT HERE TO STOWE MOUNTAIN RESORT, WHERE PEOPLE CAME EARLY AND OFTEN TO EXPERIENCE THE HISTORIC DAY ON THE SLOPES BEFORE HITTING THE SLOPES. IT WAS A RACE TO THE PARKING LOTS. RICH GREENBRG WAS ONE OF MANY PEOPLE COMING TO VERMONT FROM OUT OF STATE, AND HE WANTED TO MAKE SURE HE HAD A FRONT SEAT TO HISTORY. HE EVEN ERECTED A SIGN HIS HOMAGE TO THE SIMPSONS. SO I’M A BIG FAN OF ASTRONOMY AND TO HAVE A TELESCOPE, AND I REALLY ENJOY CELESTIAL AND OTHER EVENTS IN THE SKY. SO I LOVE, LOVE NASA. SO I HAVE MY NASA SHIRT AND ALSO HOMER SIMPSON HAS A GREAT MEME WHERE HE’S WALKING AROUND WITH A BELL WITH HIS THE END IS NEAR. UH, SIGN. SO I DECIDED IT WAS TIME TO. YEAH. YOU KNOW, DO SOMETHING FOR HOMER. VEHICLES FILLED THE MAIN LOTS FOR STOWE. ON WHAT? VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER OF THE RESORT SHANNON BUEHLER, EXPECTED TO BE ONE OF THE BUSIEST DAYS OF THE SEASON. BEEN PREPARING FOR MONTHS, BUT I WOULD SAY, YEAH, THE LAST WEEK THE INTENSITY OF OUR MEETINGS AND OUR CONVERSATIONS HAS AMPED UP TO WHERE WE WANT TO ENSURE THAT ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES KNOW THE RIGHT INFORMATION, TO SHARE WITH OUR GUESTS THAT MEANT INCREASED SKI PATROL PRESENCE AND FREE ECLIPSE GLASSES SO EVERYONE COULD ENJOY THE DAY SAFELY. FOR SOME, THE HIGHLIGHT WAS COOKING OUT TO CELEBRATE A BIG BIRTHDAY. HOW OLD ARE YOU? FIVE. YOU’RE GOING TO BE FIVE. WHILE OTHERS FOCUSED ON SHREDDING THE SLOPES WHERE THE SUN WAS SHINING. BUT IT’S GOING TO BE A BEAUTIFUL SUNNY DAY. UH, I THINK WE’VE BEEN VERY LUCKY TO HAVE IT LIKE THIS. ONCE THE LIGHTS STARTED TO DIM AND THE TEMPERATURES DROPPED, THOSE LOOKING FOR A GLIMPSE OF MAGIC SAW IT AT THE TOP OF STOWE’S FORERUNNER QUAD, RIGHT RING AROUND THE SUN. IT WAS PRETTY COOL. A LOT OF PEOPLE CAME OUT TO SEE IT. UM, I DON’T KNOW. I’VE NEVER SEEN SOMETHING LIKE THAT BEFORE. IT WASN’T FULLY DARK, WHICH IS WHAT I EXPECTED, BUT IT WAS KIND OF COOL THAT THE SURROUNDING AREA STILL HAD LIGHT, AND SO WE WERE ABLE TO SEE THAT ALL IN ALL, SKIERS FROM NEAR AND FAR COMING TOGETHER RIGHT HERE FOR A VIEW AT A ONCE IN A LIFETIME MOMENT AND A MEMORY THAT THEY’LL NEVE
