Of the five opening-day high school baseball games scheduled for Section VII’s Champlain Valley Athletic Conference (CVAC), only one played through the rainy conditions in northern New York. Plattsburgh High School baseball, the 2023 Class B sectional champions, played a solid brand of baseball through the wet field, winning against Saranac High School 9-4. The Hornets never trailed throughout the contest, including a four-run third inning with three RBI singles from Braedan Calkins, Kal Abernethy and Daniel Hartmann. Warren Miller was credited with the win on the mound for Plattsburgh pitching over 5 innings of work with several strikeouts.
