Eight teams in the inaugural Section VII girls flag football postseason were cut down to four on Tuesday, May 14. Four teams dominated their opponents to advance from the quarterfinals to the semifinals. Out of those four teams, Saranac High School scored the most that day in a 47-13 win over Peru High School. Peru, which showcased its own dominance in the sectional playoffs opening round against Plattsburgh High School, showcased a new system from their first two meetings, but Saranac was ready to counter despite having a whole week off before the playoffs started. “We knew this was a big game, we wanted to keep our season going,” said Saranac quarterback Mchenna Brown. “I was at the Peru (vs. Plattsburgh) game we saw the hook and ladders; we knew there would be a lot of trick plays so we practiced how we would defend them, and it worked out in the end.”Beekmantown High School had a wire-to-wire victory against Schroon Lake High School. A 65-yard receiving touchdown from Grace McCasland helped give her Eagles a 19-0 lead in the first half, leading to the 38-25 final score. The other two winners featured a strong balance of defense and offense in the final score. Northeastern Clinton Central High School allowed just six points in a 39-6 win against Keene High School, while Moriah High School allowed just eight points in a 32-8 win over Ausable Valley High School. The bracket is set for the top two division winners to host two separate semifinals. Division II’s top seed Moriah will face Beekmantown, while Division I’s top seed Saranac will play NCCS. Both games will start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16. See the highlights from two of the games in the video above, voiced by NBC 5’s Noah Cierzan.
