Saranac High School and Saranac Lake High School will meet in the battle of the Saranacs for the 2024 Section VII Class B championship.Saranac, earning the Class B tournament’s No. 1 seed, was able to take care of business at home in a 10-1 against the No. 4 seed Ausable Valley High School. Adrian Barnes delivered a strong outing on the mound for the Spartans, allowing just one run and striking out nine batters in a full seven innings pitched. The Spartans had two four-run frames in the second and sixth innings, which helped take their offense over the top.On the opposite side of the bracket, it was the No. 3 seed Saranac Lake who took down the No. 2 seed Northeastern Clinton Central High School in an upset 7-4 victory.Cedar Rivers was the winning pitcher for the Red Storm, striking out 10 batters and allowing four runs in a full seven innings of work. When Rivers was asked about grabbing the upset on the road against the Cougars his answer was simple. “Why not us?” Rivers said. “Why not us has been our motto all year, and why not us, really?”Chase Delosh led the way for the Red Storm at the plate hitting 2 for 3 with a double and scoring two runs. Adam Lewis also hit a two-RBI single in the top of the fifth which helped extend Saranac Lake’s lead late in the contest.
