Bolton High School stunned Lake Placid High School to win the Section VII Class D baseball championship. Before that win, Lake Placid had not lost to a single Mountain Valley Athletic Conference opponent since May 13, 2022.The Eagles put on an offensive clinic, scoring in double figures leading to an 11-8 win over the Blue Bombers. The game was back and forth. Bolton took the initial lead at 1-0, but Lake Placid responded with a three-run frame in the bottom of the first. However, Bolton refused to quit tacking on four more runs in the next frame to take the 5-3 lead. Lake Placid added two more runs to tie it back up in the bottom of the fourth, but six runs from Bolton in the final two innings of play helped them close the contest out with the upset. Bolton’s Liam Foy gave his squad the lead with a R-B-I double in the top of the 6th, a hit which Bolton first baseman Tyler Trowbridge says uplifted the energy of his squad giving them the momentum to close out the championship victory. “We definitely got loud,” Trowbridge said. “The biggest thing was Liam’s two hits, those were huge. He’s been a huge spark plug for us this season, so that was really good for him to show his talents up here.”Foy, who was the championship game’s MVP says the best version of Bolton baseball was present against Lake Placid, giving them the best chance to win and steal the sectional title.”We played our game,” Foy said. “We played the best we ever played. We haven’t played like this since we saw Crown Point at their field, and it just feels amazing to play this well.”The win was also an emotional one for Trowbridge, the only senior on the team who got to play in his first-ever sectional championship with Bolton’s baseball team, and the result did not disappoint for him and his Eagles.”These guys have been so good to me,” Trowbridge said. “It’s been awesome. They have worked so hard to get here and it’s been great to be a part of.”See the highlights and reaction from Bolton in their win in the video above voiced by NBC 5’s Noah Cierzan.
