Ticonderoga High School softball was looking for sectional championship redemption after a heartbreaking loss in the 2023 Section VII Class C softball final. On May 23, the revenge tour was complete. The Sentinels scored in double figures, picking up the 10-4 win to secure the 2024 Section VII Class C championship. “It’s really exiciting, I don’t even know how to feel,” said Ticonderoga shortstop Cassidy Mattison. “We’ve been here once this season, once last season and now we finally came home with the patch.”Mattison, who surpassed 100 career hits this season, continued her hot bat in the championship, securing 4 RBIs to earn the championship game MVP honors. Sophia Johndrow was also successful for Ticonderoga’s Offense tallying 3 RBIs. Johndrow says the additional practice time earning the bye as the no. 1 seed in the tournament was key for the Sentinels to get their offense ready to go for gameday. “Our practices we have been doing a lot of live pitching,” Johndrow said. “We show up to work harder in practices we have been hot all year with the bats, our whole lineup has been really good.”Johndrow was a part of the 2023 team, which fell just short of a sectional title after losing to Northeastern Clinton Central High School, they said that this year’s group worked just as hard this season with an added level of focus to accomplish their championship dreams.”Losing last year did disappoint a lot of us,” Johndrow said. “I think a lot of us didn’t expect it, but coming back this year, we all wanted it just as much as we did last year, but we worked a lot harder for it.”See the highlights for this game in the video above voiced by NBC 5’s Noah Cierzan. Ticonderoga will enter into state tournament play for the New York Class C softball bracket. They will host the winner of the Section II Class C championship on Wednesday, May 29, at 4:30 p.m. at SUNY Plattsburgh’s Cardinal Park.
