Nike launches sneaker in honor of Olympics breaking debut

Breaking has taken the world by storm. You know, it’s bigger, faster, stronger. Now. For the first time ever, the craft is stepping up to the highest level of sports competition. The Olympics, I feel like we’re bringing something new to the table. We’re shining *** light on breaking and how it’s no surprise. The art form is Olympic Worthy. Breaking was widely popularized and commercialized in the 19 eighties through features in films like flash dance or in hip hop music videos on MTV. It’s *** core element of hip hop among emceeing D jing and aerosol art. But breaking actually came before hip hop. According to breaking scholar and practitioner Saroj Abrahamian, the creation of breaking began in the 19 seventies when the civil rights and black power movements had reawakened *** sense of cultural pride among African Americans, African American teens in the Bronx created breaking while hanging out at block parties, rec rooms or underground clubs known as joke joints at the same time the Bronx was going through *** huge transformation, the flight of white residents due to the fear of racial integration. Do they have the soul? So that’s what I’m here to showcase is that extra element that, that’s missing and breaking around right now. Taking note of continuing with or without the Olympics but to have breaking elevated and spread to this new audience is huge audience that the Olympics have access to is very special.

Breaking will be on the world stage this summer when the sport makes its Olympic debut at the Paris Olympics. In honor of the historic event, Nike decided to capture the moment with a special sneaker. Nike released “The Nike Jam” on Wednesday, and it’s Nike’s first shoe created with breakers in mind. Related video above: Why Breaking’s debut in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics is important”We obsessed every detail from top to bottom so you can throw down in a cypher with confidence,” the sneaker’s description says on Nike’s website. “The flexible upper moves with you, and the layered design is durable enough to handle your floor work.”The sneaker was previewed at a Nike showcase in Paris, and according to Fast Company, Nike is outfitting the United States’ inaugural breaking team with the Nike Jam. According to a news release from Nike, their newest sneaker was a six-year journey. “The Jam is the product of six years of Nike innovation, built on extensive testing at the Nike Sport Research Lab and featuring insights from breakers at all levels of the sport,” Nike officials said in the news release. “The Jam maximizes breakers’ ability to slide across smooth competition surfaces as well as concrete and asphalt.”While we won’t see the sneaker in action on the world stage until August, breaking enthusiasts can snag a pair ahead of breaking’s debut in the Olympics. The Nike Jam is available in two colorways on Nike’s website in women’s sizing from Size 5 (Size 3.5 in men’s) to Size 15.5 (Size 17 in men’s). Nike officials said “federation kits” for the United States, Korea and Japan will be available globally on Aug. 1 on Nike’s website and select retail stores.
