A St. Albans man was arrested on Monday after police said he was engaged in lewd conduct near a middle school.Police said 23-year-old Darren Martell was found masturbating on a public path in a wooded area between the St. Albans Town Educational Center and a 55+ living community on Gricebrook Road. State police detectives had been looking to speak with Martell as part of their homicide investigation into the disappearance and death of Roberta Martin of Enosburgh.When Martell saw the detectives approach him, he fled into the woods, causing the nearby middle school to go into lockdown as detectives and members of the St. Albans Police Department secured the school and conducted a search for him.He was arrested a short time later and is being held at Northwest State Correctional Facility on $1,000 bail. He is due to appear in court on Tuesday to answer to a charge of lewd and lascivious conduct.Police confirmed that the charges are unrelated to their homicide investigation into Martin’s death.
