Louisville Metro Police Department Officer Nick Wilt is continuing to improve, a year after being discharged from the hospital. Wilt, one of the first responders of the Old National Bank shooting, was shot in the head after rushing the steps of the bank toward the gunman in April last year. He was released from the hospital last July and began outpatient treatment. According to family, Wilt stopped outpatient therapy in January, opting for in-home therapy instead. In an update from Wilt’s family on Monday, they said “Nick is doing well and, most importantly, still loving life.”The family also said Wilt is now able to walk with and without a cane, talk, eat well and move around.They also said that he has been living without any major complications, except for a few seizures a month. This could be something he lives with for the rest of his life.He also had a service dog donated to him, Luke, who will assist Wilt day-to-day.”Our ultimate goal for Nick is independence. For example, he wants to move to his very own house and live his own life independently,” said the statement from Wilt’s family. “He is well on his way but will still need time to heal.”Read the full update below:
