Police are investigating a suspicious vehicle fire that is believed to have been caused by fireworks.Vermont State Police reported that the Rochester Fire Department was called to a home on South Main Street in Rochester last Saturday for a report of a fully engulfed vehicle.When crews arrived, they found the vehicle on fire in a driveway and were eventually able to extinguish the blaze. However, the vehicle was totally destroyed.An investigation later determined that another motorist had been driving up and down South Main Street and setting off fireworks, and the embers from one of those fireworks likely sparked the blaze that destroyed the vehicle.The victim also told police that they were awaiting repairs before attempting to sell the vehicle before it was destroyed.The fire happened just a quarter of a mile away from the nearby Rochester Elementary School.An investigation into the fire is ongoing.Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Royalton Barracks at 802-234-9933 or by contacting the Vermont Arson Tip Award Program (VATAP) hotline at 1-800-32-ARSON (1-800-322-7766).
