News We Love: California teen honored for saving drowning child
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

It was *** normal Sunday afternoon at Lake Nacimiento for 13 year old Lazaro Perez when he heard *** splash but did not see anyone resurface. And then I turned around and the boy wasn’t on the floating no more. Monterey County Park rangers say *** seven year old boy was not wearing *** life jacket when he fell off *** tube near the shoreline without *** second thought. Lazaro dove in. I saw him like China and drowning. So then I started going towards him and then he was about to go under water. But yeah, I was kind of scared. Are you *** good swimmer? Mm. Well, not that much. Laro tells me he was able to pull the boy back to shore. The teen’s mother says she stood frozen in fear as she watched her son leap into action. Lazaro reacted quickly. I was paralyzed. I couldn’t react because I was scared. Even though it was not my child, I was scared and I didn’t know what to do. Nancy says she’s heard stories like this before, but with far worse outcomes, I’ve heard both stories like these, but we both ended up drowned. It can happen to even the best swimmer when they returned home and shared the news with Lao’s grandmother. Her heart swelled with pride. I thank God that he save that boy’s life. I told him, congratulations, you did it. I felt grateful for what I did. News of the rescue quickly spread after Monterey County Park Ranger shared Lazaro’s heroic story on social media. The department tells me district three supervisor, Chris Lopez will be honoring Lazaro with *** ceremonial resolution at an upcoming county of Monterey Board of Supervisors meeting if you were able to see the boy that you saved in person. Um What would you say to him? I would just ask him if he’s ok if he needs help with anything. Park Rangers told me the boy is going to be ok in Lompoc, Olivia Gonzalez, Brit Ksby News.
