Jury selection to begin in re-trial of Vermont sheriff
Franklin County Sheriff John Grismore is expected to return to court this week, two months after a judge declared a mistrial in his assault case.
Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in Grand Isle Court for an assault trial against Franklin County, Vermont, Sheriff John Grismore. This is the second time Grismore will go to trial, after the jury was unable to reach a verdict in July. The Franklin County sheriff was charged with simple assault after a video surfaced from August 2022 showing him allegedly kicking a man in handcuffs. NBC5 reached out to Grismore, his lawyer, and the state prosecutor for comment. The state declined an interview, as did Grismore and his lawyer. However, Grismore told NBC5 his team is “optimistic that we’ll have a favorable outcome.” The jury draw is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday, with the trial tentatively scheduled to get underway on Tuesday.
