Judge declares second mistrial in Franklin County Sheriff John Grismore assault case
The judge in a retrial of Franklin County Sheriff John Grismore has declared a mistrial on the third day of jury deliberations.On Monday afternoon, the Hon. Samuel Hoar Jr. received a note saying that the jurors could not come to a unanimous decision following multiple days of deliberations. Judge Hoar declared a mistrial shortly thereafter.Sheriff John Grismore had been on trial for the second time this year after he was charged with simple assault for allegedly kicking a detained man in custody back in August 2022. This is the second time the case has gone to trial after a mistrial was declared in July. The judge in the case released jurors after a full day of deliberations on Friday as they struggled to reach a unanimous decision.Both the prosecution and defense will reconvene in 30 days to determine whether or not to proceed with a third trial.Previous coverage:
