Crumbling Vermont bridge closed to vehicle traffic
The Gaysville Bridge, also known as bridge #35, is deteriorating so badly, VTrans said it should be closed.
A bridge in Windsor County is in such bad shape, the Vermont Agency of Transportation told the town of Stockbridge the structure should be closed. The bridge is over the White River, near Route 107. It is known as bridge #35 or the Gaysville Bridge.According to an inspection report from the transportation agency, the superstructure was at risk of imminent failure. The report described major deterioration and material loss to structural components, affecting the stability of the bridge. VTrans said the bridge should be closed until repairs can be made or until a new bridge replaces it.According to the Stockbridge town website, the bridge was closed Oct. 1, and barriers have been in place.
