Vermont State Police are investigating a presumed drowning after a body was recovered from Rood Pond on Monday morning.Troopers said they believe the body they recovered belongs to 30-year-old Steven Jones of Brookfield, who was last seen on Sunday afternoon in Rood Pond in Williamstown.Witnesses told police they heard yelling from the pond around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday and saw an overturned kayak. Jones was reported to have been on the water to go duck hunting and was dressed in warm clothes but was not wearing a life vest.Police said the incident does not appear to be suspicious. The body was recovered around 11 a.m. on Monday and has been brought to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for confirmation of identity and to determine the cause and manner of death.Anyone with information that could help police is asked to contact the Berlin Barracks at 802-229-9191.
