Just before the end of 2024, a new scoring champion was crowned in Section VII high school boys’ basketball. Crown Point high school’s Trevor Harris eclipsed the former sectional record of 1,744 career points set by Schroon Lake high school’s Andrew Pelkey set back in 2020 on December 19, 2024. His 47-point outing against Indian Lake – Long Lake high school led him to the new record, which at the time was 1,752 career points. “It means a lot, I’ve worked pretty hard for this,” Harris said. While setting the record was nice, the most important set of numbers from that night was the 60-48 win, leading the Panthers third win of the season. “It really just focus on winning games,” Harris said. “I really just go out there and try to win games … score got tight and got subbed into the (Indian Lake-Long Lake game) had to score and get us the win.”Harris has all the scoring accolades to brag about, surpassing 1,000 career points and setting the new Crown Point school scoring record which was set by Glenn Lang back in 1973. Harris would rather brag about his team accolades, playing a pivotal role in leading the Panthers to back-to-back sectional championships appearances. He’s confident that this year’s group of Panthers can make their third straight appearance and win the sectional championship game this time around. “It would mean everything,” Harris said. “Came up short last two years. I really hope we can get it done this year. I think we can. We have the right pieces and we just got to put it together.”Harris credits all the local support he has received from Crown Point to his journey as a varsity basketball player all beginning when he was a starter during his freshman season. He says he is appreciative for all the opportunities given him from his family, coaches and teammates to go out and play at a high level.”Everyone honestly has been great,” Harris said. “Coach (Jason Hughes), Coach (Cody) Crammond, my team, family, I love it in Crown Point, I get treated really well. I love everyone here.”You can see my full interview with Harris on his thoughts for breaking the Section VII scoring record in the video below. Harris put together a solid effort in trying to get Crown Point’s fourth win of the season with a 30-point outing against Seton Catholic high schoolHowever, it wasn’t enough for a win this time around. The Knights defensive scheme held the Panthers to under 40 points in a 58-35 win. Michael Mannix paced Seton Catholic with a game-high 31 points, while Thane Shalton also finished in double figures with 12 points.
