Chateaugay High School picked up eight straight wins to start the 2024-25 basketball season. The North Country powerhouse finally picked up their first loss of the season against Northeastern Clinton High School. There were several lead changes between this back-and-forth battle, but some timely steals and made free throws down the stretch helped NCCS take the 56-51 win over Chateaugay.”It means a lot,” said NCCS forward Logen Magoon. “We had our struggles tonight, but it’s just the way that we pushed through and were able to get the job done. It was good that we won that game.”Magoon led the Cougars offense with 17 points, but it was a balanced effort overall, with Ashton Turner and Maxx Rabideau finishing with 13 and 10 points, respectively.Magoon said the team’s activity in crashing the offensive glass, securing multiple rebounds and attacking mismatches was pivotal to the Cougars’ offensive success. “Honestly, just trying to get in there and bang in there,” Magoon said. “Just trying to hammer the ball inside the paint and see what we could create inside.”On defense, NCCS mixed in a variety of press looks, forcing Chateaugay to commit several turnovers before reaching halfcourt. The Bulldog offense did have a major contribution, pouring in a game-high 27 points, making four three-pointers. Charlie Breault also chipped in with 15 points.
