A Londonderry, New Hampshire, family has been reunited with their beloved cat, Kumiko, eight months after she disappeared.The Ambler family received a surprising call that their cat had been found in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They have no idea how Kumiko ended up there.A local shelter scanned Kumiko for a microchip, which was traced back to the Ambler family.”I want to try to increase your awareness. So if people are, like, well-meaning and like, ‘Oh, we found a stray, can we keep it, mom and dad?’ Sure. But let’s bring it to a vet and scan it first because it might have torn its collar off, which those little banana heads do on the regular, and it might actually belong to somebody that desperately wants it back,” said Paul Ambler, Kumiko’s owner.Since her disappearance, Kumiko has become an indoor cat. Her owners said she cuddles with them every chance she gets and has developed a new “meow,” possibly with a Midwest accent.Kumiko’s family is grateful to have her home and emphasized the importance of microchipping pets.
