The list of Beekmantown high school athletes putting pen to paper for the college level got another addition on Tuesday, Feb. 4Payton Parliament signed her national letter of intent to an NCAA Division III women’s college soccer program in West Virginia: Fairmont State University. “I feel like the pressure is definitely over,” Parliament said. “I’m definitely thankful for everyone here who supported me.”The 10-hour drive will be quite the trip for Parliament to continue her college career, but it’s one she is happy to make. She believes Fairmont has everything she needs to succeed at the NCAA level. “I definitely had to look at it a bit first,” Parliament said. “Everything for the athletes is there to the ultimate extent. I like what they offer for their athletes and academically,”Parliament expects to play forward for the Falcons, a position which she has thrived in the past few seasons for the Eagles’ varsity soccer team. She surpassed 200 career points, earned Northern Soccer League (NSL) MVP honors in 2023, and won back-to-back sectional championships in 2023 and 2024 including an undefeated NSL season with Beekmantown in her 2024 campaign. That same support group from all her success, ranging from her coaches at the high school and club level, athletic directors and her parents are a group of people she credits the most for her accomplishments, all leading up to her commitment to Fairmont. It’s a group that led her to get a bit emotional, shedding some tears before she signed her letter of intent to the Falcons. “It’s meant so much, especially because I wouldn’t be here without them,” Parliament said. “Especially from Michele (Barnes) as a coach … Mr. (Justin) Frechette pushing me, my mom (Jennifer) and dad (Shane). Everyone has always made sure that you have to work for what you get and I’m so thankful that they pushed me to my limits to make sure I can get to where I’m at.”Parliament’s high school soccer career is all wrapped up, but she is finishing her up high school basketball career and plans to play her third season of high school flag football for the Eagles before she graduates this June.
