Lake Placid High School boys’ basketball’s senior night became a little extra special for one blue bomber on the court. Sebil Cecunjanin was on the cusp of reaching 1,000 career points, entering his senior night game against Schroon Lake-Newcomb High School just two points away from the mark. With less than two minutes to go in the first quarter, Cecunjanin got his chance. After picking Schroon Lake’s Austin Hartwell’s pocket on a steal, with a burst of speed, Cecunjanin blazed past the wildcat defense and soared for a breakaway layup, leading him to the 1,000-point mark.Cecunjanin erupted in joy after making the layup, his teammates swarmed him with hugs, and a packed Lake Placid high school gym erupted in cheers after he became the third player in boys’ basketball school history to hit the century scoring mark. The last player to his 1,000 in a blue bomber uniform was Aaron Greene in 2002, where the first to clear 1,000 points for Lake Placid was Nip Rogers in 1979. Cecunjanin finished the contest with a team-high 22 points, while Caleb Wylie chipped in with 12 points, but it wasn’t quite enough to take down Schroon Lake-Newcomb. A 38-18 first half helped paced the Wildcats in a 69-41 win over the Blue Bombers. Nate Melville poured in a game-high 32 points for Schroon Lake, while Austin Hartwell added 26 points. The dynamic scoring duo combined for 84 percent of their team’s points. See the highlights in the video above, voiced by NBC 5’s Jack Main.
