Champlain College partners with Burton for rail jam
Fast falling snow Thursday made for a slick and slow evening commute. But, while many were excited to get out of the snow and cold, others grabbed their skis for a rail jam. “It’s a celebration of community. You know, our ski and rid club was able to partner with Burton and put on this amazing winter jam,” said Champlain College president Alex Hernandez. “It’s just great to have Champlain students, high school students and professional skiers and riders from around the state. It’s a celebration of Vermont.”Champlain College partnered with Burton for a rail jam, the first since before the pandemic. The fresh snow added another layer of difficulty to the event.”You would think it helps. It helps when you miss a trick, and you fall. It’s a soft landing, but it makes it a little bit of slower conditions out here,” Ian Burke, one of the participants, said. “It’s a little more difficult to do those big tricks that people want to see.”Burke said he hopes up at the mountains, the snow is packed down in time for the weekend. “Especially up on the mountains, this weekend will be really great skiing once it gets packed down,” Burke said. “Here in the quad tonight, it’s going to be a little bit slower conditions.”
