With four games left in State University of New York Athletic Conference women’s hockey play for Plattsburgh State University, the Cardinals view each game as critical in trying to earn a high seed in the conference playoffs. Plattsburgh inched closer to that goal on Friday, Feb. 7, with a 3-0 shutout win against Potsdam State at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. Two assistant coaches, former Plattsburgh State women’s hockey assistant coach and PSU women’s hockey hall of famer Danielle Blanchard, and current assistant coach Emma Killeen, led the Cardinals on the bench in the victory. Plattsburgh State women’s hockey head coach Kevin Houle was not at the game. NBC 5 reached out to Plattsburgh State for a statement on his absence, but the school declined to comment. He is expected to return to the bench in the team’s next game against Potsdam on the road Saturday, Feb. 8 at Maxcy Hall. Blanchard and Kileen filled in nicely, helping the Cardinals score one goal in each period against the Bears. The scoring started with a rebound goal by Tessa Morris in the first period. Plattsburgh added another in the second period after a pass by Sydnee Francis set up Kate Conlon, who lifted her leg up and scored on a no-look goal in front of the net. Su-An Cho added an insurance goal in the third period on a wrist shot. Chloe Lewis picked up her seventh shutout win and second of the season against Potsdam with 15 saves in the net. See the highlights in the video above, voiced by NBC 5’s Noah Cierzan.
