Saranac High School has a new all-time scoring queen on the court. Brenna Ducatte’s catch-and-shoot three-pointer at 2:54 remaining in the first quarter against Plattsburgh High School led her to become her school’s new all-time girls’ basketball scoring leader. The former record was set in 1995 by Saranac graduate Ann Parks at 1,458 points. Ducatte has the new mark at 1,477 points and counting as the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference regular season still continues for the senior guard and the Spartans. “At the beginning of the game, I kind of just wanted to get it over with,” Ducatte said. “Just so I could focus on keep playing the game.”Ducatte emphasized that the nerves were at a minimal to set the record, in comparison to her 1,000-career point milestone she set in the 2023-2024 season. She entered that night needing nine points rather than the two points she needed to tie and three points to break the record. “The pressure was off a little more this year,” Ducatte said. “1,000 was the big milestone for me, so yeah, a lot less pressure — kind of just letting whatever happens when it happens.”Ducatte finished the night with 21 points, which helped lead the Spartans to the 56-31 win over the Hornets. Maddie Gagnier and Layla Pellerin also chipped in with 14 and 12 points respectively. Plattsburgh had early production from Olivia LaMountain who scored eight points in the first half, leading her to lead her team with 11 points. Ava Weiss also chipped in with eight points. Elsewhere in Section VII hoops, a non-league battle in Ellenburg, New York, ended with a 48-29 win for Northern Adirondack High School over Willsboro High School. Ava Moore led all scorers, and her 17 points helped lead the Bobcats to victory. Emma Jacques led the Wolves in scoring with 16 points.See the highlights for both games in the video above, voiced by NBC 5’s Jack Main.
