
You might see a larger-than-normal police presence in Elizabethtown on Friday as county, state and federal officials conduct an active assailant drill downtown.The Essex County manager announced that from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., county officials will be working with law enforcement partners to hold an emergency scenario drill at the County Courthouse and Main County Complex.The drill is being designed to help strengthen response capabilities for court and county personnel in case of a real emergency, according to the announcement. It will simulate “realistic scenarios” and provide a real-world training opportunity for those employees.Members of the New York State Division of Homeland Security, New York State Police, the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, UVM Health Network, New York State Courts and other local agencies will be involved.The Essex County Courthouse and the Main County Complex and all buildings within will be closed from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. to facilitate the training exercise.The Lewis Town Justice Court will be open on Route 9N during this time for emergency petition filings, and the Ticonderoga Motor Vehicles office will be open as well.For further information regarding the drill, you are asked to contact the Essex County Office of Emergency Services at their main line at 518-873-3900.
