
The Burlington Police Department arrested a Vermont man Sunday after he allegedly cut another person during a fight.Police said they were called to Thorsen Way just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of a physical fight. When officers arrived, they found a victim with slash wounds from being cut.The victim told police that they were part of a long-standing dispute with a man named Gary Stewart, who had pulled a knife during the fight and tried to cut them. Stewart then fled the scene when nearby bar staff intervened.Police located Stewart several minutes later, but he allegedly tried to use a false name with officers. He was arrested, and police learned that he had discarded a jacket, a backpack and a box cutter following the attack.He was lodged on $5,000 bail and is due in court Monday to answer to charges of aggravated assault with a weapon, providing false information to a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct. Stewart appeared in court on Monday afternoon and pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was ordered held without bail and is due back in court in June.Police said Stewart has a criminal history in Vermont that includes 11 convictions for assaultive crimes.
